Teaching

Emily is passionate about enthusing and educating young musicians. Emily teaches any ability on the flute, be that working through exam grades or learning just for fun.

Emily holds an enhanced DBS check and is happy to teach in person or online via zoom, microsoft teams and skype.  Emily offers a free consultation lesson, please see her contact page to get in touch.

Emily has had a variety of teaching experience. She currently teaches flute at Winterfold House School in the West Midlands and has taught privately for 8 years, teaching a complete range of ages and abilities on the flute.

In 2019, Emily was a mentor at the Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Through this she had the opportunity to mentor woodwind sections in the wind orchestra and symphony orchestra, observe and mentor the flute choir, shadow one-to-one flute lessons and contribute to admin tasks such as taking registers, handing out music and liaising with conductors.

From 2018-2020, Emily volunteered as a tutor with Melody Music. Melody Music is a collaborative organisation, dedicated to education for people with special educational needs. Emily worked one-to-one with a student and she led short musical workshops to the group. Through this, Emily is qualified in level 2 Makaton signing. Makaton is a unique learning tool that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate.

Emily has recently started teaching for the amazing In Harmony programme in Telford, which focuses on the power of music making to transform the lives of children and young people in disadvantaged communities.

Testimonials

'Emily is an amazing teacher, she is very patient and during every session I feel I have learnt something new. She is able to pick out mistakes even over zoom calls and find ways for me to improve, be it through certain exercises or pointing to other resources that will help solve them. Overall I always look forward to each session and would be happy to recommend her as a teacher to anyone.'

'Emily taught my daughter (then age 9/10) as a beginner flute player. She was kind, patient, encouraging and an inspiring teacher, helping to improve on tenchnique learned from group lessons and seeing my daughter through her ABRSM grade 1 exam in which she achieved a distinction.'
